Cover Lust #39 – Teardrop by Lauren Kate
Lauren Kate’s books always have beautiful covers, usually with particularly beautiful dresses, but this one takes it to a whole new level.
I love the colours in this – the soft blues and pinks that give the image a really mystical feel, particularly with the hint of an ancient looking city scape in the background.
But that dress though… It is mildly disturbing that she doesn’t appear to have legs. Or a lower abdomen. But the water dress’s beauty more than makes up for the slightly jarring nature of the image if you look closely at it. I love the way it looks like a dress at first, then like someone turned on a tap at the bottom – it transitions pretty seamlessly, which is some good photomanipulation. It’s such a striking central image, grabbing the eye and making you want to study it closely.
And read the book, of course!
