An Award And A Contest

So, it’s been a hectic week for me. I knew it was going to be hectic, and thought I had posts all written and ready to publish with a button click throughout the week… But it turns out I only wrote the titles of the posts and not the content. I fail.

But apparently I don’t (in some circles, anyway) because I came home from a tiring day at work to find I’d won an award. Yay :)

Here are the guidelines:
Link back to the person who gave it to you.
Give 7 facts about yourself.
Award 15 great bloggers you’ve recently discovered (if you wish or have the time :) ).
Contact them and tell them about the award.

I recieved this award from Kelsey at Ketch Tavern.
So, here are seven facts about me!
1. My greatest ambition in life is to get a book published and have it enjoyed by at least half the people who read it.
2. I can run, according to the treadmill, which I think is overly generous, 2km. This, for me, is a massive achievement in 3 months. I’m aiming to get up to 5km for a charity race later in the year.
3. Nobody will play monopoly with me because it makes me go a little crazy. I’m a bit of a hoarder by nature and have to own ALL the properties.
4. I play the piano, pretend to play drums and sing. The Gilmores all play an instrument – youngest just picked up bass guitar in order to complete our family band. Our party trick is randomly swapping instruments. (hence pretending to play drums)
5. I love playing on photoshop and always make pictures for my stories. This weekend, Taylor and I are going to do a photoshoot (I say photoshoot… I’m a shoddy photographer) and hopefully make some pictures for a series of stories I’m planning to post on the blog. Taylor is a good model because she is so pretty :)
6. The place where I work is supposedly haunted by a kid who got a fancy dress costume caught in an old fashioned heater and burned to death in the 50s. Last night I had a really freaky dream about it and I was a bit scared to go to my room in the dark this morning. I’m on the haunted corridor – eep!
7. I won a load of books the other day and I’m really exciting about getting them! Hope they arrive tomorrow, it would make my weekend.
I won’t be passing the award on, as I don’t really discover that many new blogs, and most of the ones I follow have already had this award. Too many stylish people out there, clearly.

And now for a contest…

Taschima Cullen at Bloody Bookaholic is hosting an incredible giveaway of loads of the amazing books 2011 had to offer. You should definitely click on the picture and go check it out.

And I think that’s everything I needed to do on the blog today. Will work on some of those blank-but-titled posts I have saved up so next week posts won’t be quite so sparse!

Happy weekend everyone :)

Book Blog Hop 15

It’s that Friday feeling! Well, this week, after a hectic week at work, I’m wanting to use a strong phrase than ‘Thank God it’s Friday’. But let’s keep this strictly PG, shall we? :D

The question this week is: When you read a book that you just can’t get into, do you stick it out and keep reading or move to your next title?

Post blogging, I would have just given up, but since blogging I feel obliged to finish books in order to share a full and reasoned opinion. I don’t easily give up on books, but there have been a few in recent history. Divine by Blood by P.C. Cast is the most recent book I didn’t finish. And I barely scraped through the previous two in the series. Just thought they were dire… The book before that I didn’t finish was Atonement (Shocked Gasp from the blog world) I know… I just couldn’t get into it.

I have several books that I’ve started reading but haven’t finished yet – this is much more common than me giving up completely on a book. They get shoved aside when something more exciting comes in, either because they aren’t the most gripping, or they are very long, or simply because the new acquisition is shinier. But I do always get round to them in the end. Usually…

So, what do you do about those books you just don’t want to finish? Oh, and while you’re here you can…

Check out the Giveaway I’m hosting!

Competition + Giveaway

Hi everyone. Something a bit outside the norm today, but there are PRIZES involved!

Stan and Jill. Family Super Heroes.

Volkswagen Ultimate Family Hero Competition

Meet Stan and Jill Jones, head of the large Jones family. I mean large. These guys have 13 grandkids, aged from 23 down to 3 months. Stan and Jill are in their seventies, but still have time to visit their family once a week, support them and provide knitted hats and gloves to keep them warm! They are true family Superheroes.

They have been nominated for the Volkswagen Ultimate Family Superhero competition and have made it to the final three. Now they need your vote to claim the title!

If they win, they will be donating £1000 to Cancer Research UK, as well as some money for local schools their younger grandchildren attend.

Because I know Stan and Jill and would love to see them win, I’m trying to help spread the word. They need your votes, people!

Competition

Everyone who votes is entered into a prize draw and there are four family holidays up for grabs! So support ‘Superpops and Nana’ (that’s Stan and Jill’s superhero alteregos!) and have your own chance to win a holiday!

Unfortunately for Americans and other readers outside of the UK, it is UK only for the VW prizes, however, if anyone makes a truly superheroic effort to help me get Jill and Stan some votes, they will be entered into a Giveaway Contest to win £10 (thats about US$15) of books of your choice from Book Depository!

There are additional entries up for daily retweeting, daily posting to facebook, and any votes you gain after submitting the form. Just leave me links to your extra votes in the comments, and keep forwarding me those emails with your name and I’ll add them to the spreadsheet!

Giveaway closes November 7th!

Book Blog Hop 13

I am always too tired to post this on Fridays now. Full time work is exhausting after a three month break XD.

This week we are honouring our favourite bloggers. I’m a huge fan of All Things Urban Fantasy. I particularly love the Cover Art Coverage feature – so nice to see all those lovely book covers :) (and of course, the reviews are fab too!)

And now for a contest…

Down the Rabbit Hole is having a 100 followers giveaway. Some great books on offer for both American and International followers, so go check it out!

Book Contest on The Undercover Book Lover’s Blog

As a massive fan of YA paranomal fiction, it is my great pleasure to direct your attention to a fantastic giveaway going on here.

I’ll be entering and keeping my fingers crossed for sure – what a great bunch of titles! (and, er, chewing gum)

I’ll be adding these to my TBR pile if I win or not:

The Eternal Ones – Kirsten Miller
Halo – Alexandra Adornetto
